A process through which the material, historical, and design integrity of mankind's built heritage are prolonged through carefully planned interventions.

PRESERVATION: KEEPING CULTURAL PROPERY FROM BEING DESTROYED

REHABILITATION : TO MAKE OLD BUILDING REUSABLE  RESTORATION: REVIVING THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT AND FABRIC TO ITS ORIGINAL KNOWN STATE

RECONSTRUCTION: REBUILDING WHAT WAS THERE

REPLICATION: IMITATING WHAT PREVIOUSLY EXISTED

RELOCATION : MOVING BUILDING OR MONUMENT FOR ECONOMIC OR GEORAPHICAL REASONS

ADAPTIVE RE-USE: CHANGING BUILDING MAIN FUNCTION WHILE MAINTAINING ITS ORIGINAL FORM AND CHARACTER

MAINTENANCE : CONTINUOUS CARE AND PROTECTION

Project 1 involved the compilation of measured drawings of an historic building. In this case, the building was the Courthouse Museum in Perak. Furthermore, it was required to write a report counting the history of the building.

For project 2, we were assigned to produce a dilapidation survey of a specific building, meaning that we had to evaluate the state of building defects. Based on our observations, we had to produce a report containing annotated photographic study diagnosing building defects. The chosen building is found in Kuala Lumpur, neighbouring the Sin Sze Si Ya Temple.

Project 3 require students to propose for potential new usage for building conservation. It will require students to investigate and observe practices and approaches on architecture conservation in Malaysia. Students are to organize trips to several sites in order to explore, comprehend and form opinion which subsequently captured in a proposal statement and illustrated diagrams.

Learning Outcomes
