PROJECT 1: Experiencing Construction: Experiencing, documentation and analysing CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

The objectives of this project are as follows:

 To introduce basic principles and procedures of construction process through real life project (experiential learning)

 To understand the sequence and coordination of construction at site

 To expose students to construction technology/methods responding to site context

 To allow student to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of construction, material and technology

 To train students to produce manual sketches, drawings and detailing relating to EXISTING construction

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

TASK

We were assigned to select ongoing construction site which visibly covers most of subject topics which we covered in the syllabus. We had to select one site each which is medium rise or low rise buildings eg. bungalow, terrace houses or maximum 4-storey building.

We had to identify different types of building elements and its construction process, details and materials. Then we study and record construction of different building elements, which we have learnt in this module. In specific, we should be able to show and apply your knowledge in the details of the building construction drawing that we should provide a reflecting your understanding of the construction itself.

Analyse and Explain

 Specification of material used in construction

 Dimensions and sizes of components

 Standards of descriptions

 Procedures of constructing the components

 Construction response to site context (environmental issues related to sustainable development)

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 Produce a complete documentation (pictures, sketches and drawing) and analysis of construction elements

 Understand and explain construction elements and its components.

 Understand current construction technology on local construction sites

 Explain current material and technology in relevance to present construction industry

PROJECT 2: CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES AND PROCESSES

INTRODUCTION

The design process is ongoing from conceptual design stage right through to construction. All these activities are in sequential and requires different resources such as workers, materials, machinery and plants etc. Students are required to allow demostrate of knowledge and understanding of construction, application from prior project and emphasis the exercise of visualizing construction activities and process of a 3 storeys bungalow building.

The objectives of this project are as follows:

• To introduce basic principles and procedures of construction process through a simulated project

• To understand the sequence and coordination of construction at site

• To allow student to demonstrate their understanding and knowledge of construction, material and technology

TASK

We were assigned to document and illustrate visualising construction activities and process of a 3 storeys bungalow building. The construction project should be documented in weeks, including Construction Activity, Duration, Materials, Equipment, Skilled Worker. The stage by stage process should be illustrate in 3D diagram (manual or computer aided). For this project, I used the application: Autodesk Revit 2014.

Learning Outcome

• Produce a complete documentation (pictures, sketches and drawing) and analysis of construction

elements

• Understand and explain construction elements and its components.

• Understand current construction technology on local construction sites

• Explain current material and technology in relevance to present construction industry
