PROJECT 1:Materiality of SPACE: Encountering Space & Materiality

In this project, we are required to do a site analysis and explore the material that apply in the site we had selected. My group and I chose the Bungalow located in Klang, Selangor.

Our task was to produce a complete documentation and analysis of materials in respect to physical and chemical properties. We had to then identify the various types of building material (Finishes and Structural). I have understood the effects of building materials on aesthetics and structural qualities of a space or building. I understood the appropriateness of material used in context several factorsoccupancy, concept, climate. We had sharpen our analytical skill in understanding selection of building materials for a building/designUnderstanding of application/ installation of material as finish and structural material (simple construction)

For the 2nd part of this project, we had to individually study the design intention and concept of our chosen building. I made my research and interview on how the concept had influenced the choice of materials.

I also had to pick a space within our building. I chose the rooftop.I had to experience within the space.

PROJECT 2: INTEGRATION

Taking the knowledge on building materials acquired from the first project, we have been assigned to apply it on the second project which is linked to the 3rd Design Studio project. I had to choose the most suitable materials for my personal space which would affect the tactile and chemical properties of my space.

To choose the appropriate materials, I had to explore and identify various types of building materials and technology.

The learning outcome of this project is to understand the effects of building materialson occupancy, aesthetics and structural qualities of the space or building.

We had to produce drawings to visualize the architectural effects of proposed materials
