The first project was about how we, students, be able to sketch the physical and intangible qualities of the buildings. tangible aspects as interpreted as the physical aspects of the buildings and intangible as interpreted as the daily activities, cultural elements.
we were given free choice of media for this task. i chose artline pen sketching. through the diffrerent tones of lines, i have tried to express the sadness, desolation in which the building was left before we came there.
we had to focus on 4 categories:
1. genius loci: in other words meant the spirit of the place; what made this place significant.
2. poetic quality: this category is mostly on the personal point of view; the feelings evoked during the visit.
3. cultural attributes: the history and cultural part significant for the buidling and the neighbouring context.

this project helps in understanding the building and site context easily. I became aware and observant of the surrounding. it brings knowledge of the history and events occurred there on site. as a consequence, i have learned how to translate those important details about the genius loci through graphic communication skills.
